A fire broke out at a garment factory in Sonargaon Modonpur area of Narayanganj on Friday afternoon.
The fire started around 4:30pm at three two-storey buildings of Zaheen Knitwears Ltd at Modonpur near Dhaka-Chattagram highway, said Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defense Deputy Assistant Director Abdullah Al Arefin.
On information, the first unit of firefighters reached the spot within 15 minutes. The fire started from one building and quickly spread to two adjacent buildings, he added.
Abdullah Al Arefin said the fire spread quickly around 5:00pm and 10 units of different fire stations of the district started working on fire control at first. Later, six more units joined the extinguishing work.
“Since the factory was closed today (Friday), no workers were inside. No casualties have been reported yet,” he said.
After learning about the fire, workers rushed to the spot to help the firefighters. The fire would hopefully be doused soon, Abdullah Al Arefin added.
