Bangladesh on Sunday recorded another 12,183 new cases of Covid-19, with the country’s daily test positivity rate declining slightly to 28.33 per cent.
During this time, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) recorded 34 more coronavirus related deaths as the total death toll reached 28,363 and positive cases 17,85,332 since the country first detected Covid patient on March 8, 2020, and death from the viral disease on March 18, 2020.
On Saturday, the positivity rate hit 31.10 per cent.
The daily case positivity rate reached its peak of 33.37 per cent on January 28 this year.
Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 43,006 samples at 865 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 1,24,33,324 samples.
Meanwhile, 2,167 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,65,645.
The test positivity rate has been witnessing an upward trend since the start of the new year, rising from 2.43 per cent on January 1.
Bangladesh’s total tally of Omicron cases reached 69 with the detection of five more cases till January 23, according to GISAID, a global initiative on sharing all influenza data.
On December 9 last year, Bangladesh again logged zero Covid-related death after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of easing.
The country reported this year’s first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.
Besides, the country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10 last year.
