95.26% pass HSC, equivalent exams

As high as 95.26 per cent students have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations of 2021 while female students outshone males in terms of pass rate and getting the highest grade point average (GPA) 5. A total of 1,89,169 students secured GPA 5 in the exams under 11 education boards.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday morning unveiled the results virtually from Ganabhaban.

Later, Education Minister Dipu Moni, who received the summaries of the results on behalf of the prime minister, announced highlights from the summary at a press conference at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital.

In the combined result, 96.49 per cent girls and 94.14 per cent boys passed the exams and 1,02,406 female students secured GPA 5 while 86,763 males got the same grade point average.

A number of 13,71,681 examinees sat for the HSC and equivalent examinations while 13,06,718 of them came out successful.

Under the nine general education boards, 95.57 per cent passed the exams while Jashore recorded the highest pass rate – 98.11 per.

Cumilla had a success rate of 97.49 per cent, Rajshahi 97.29 per cent, Dhaka 96.20 per cent, Barishal 95.76 per cent, Mymensingh 95.71 per cent, Sylhet 94.80 per cent, Dinajpur 92.43 per cent, and Chattogram 89.39 per cent.

The pass rate in madrasa and technical education boards stood at 95.49 per cent and 92.85 per cent respectively.

Students from more than 9,100 educational institutions participated in the examinations. Out of those, not a single student from five educational institutions passed the exams. However, all students of 1,934 institutions came out successful.

The HSC and equivalent examinations began on December 2, 2021 and ended on December 30 while the examinations were held with a short syllabus due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation.

The examinations could not be held in 2020 due to the Covid-19 outbreak and the examinees were given GPA using the subject mapping method based on their results in the Secondary School Certificate, Junior School Certificate and equivalent examinations.

In 2020, 100 per cent students passed the exams while 1,61,807 achieved GPA 5.

In 2019, the combined pass rate was 73.93 per cent and 47,286 students got GPA 5.
