LPG price re-fixed at Tk1,439

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission re-fixed the price of 12-kg LPG cylinder at Tk 1,439 from existing Tk 1,391 with effect from 6pm on Sunday.

The hike in fuel price by Tk 48 has upset a whole lot of consumers already exasperated by the rising prices of commodities.

However, allegations had it that unscrupulous traders were charging extra for which mobile court for consumer rights sealed some LPG stores in the capital in recent times.

Fuel prices have risen sharply since the start of the Ukraine war. Russia’s invasion has added fuel to the fire.

The prices all kinds of fuel in the international market have crossed their earlier record.

As a result the price of LPG spiked for three consecutive months in the domestic market, according to the BERC.

“This time LPG price per kg has been raised to Tk 119.94 from Tk 116 which will come into effect from 6pm on Sunday,” it added.

According to the new decision, the price of centrally reticulated LPG has also been hiked from Tk 112.75 to Tk 116.60 per kg.

At the same time, the price of LP gas, which is commonly known as auto gas used in transportation, has also followed suit. In April, its price went up from Tk 64.6 to Tk 67.2 per litre. Besides, the price of all cylinders has also been increased.

BERC Chairman Abdul Jalil said the rise in LPG prices follows the rise in prices of propane and butane in the international market, devaluation of taka against dollar and the rising Vat rates.

The cost of propane and butane rose in the international market in March over February.

According to the Saudi CP, the price of propane and butane rose to $ 940 from $ 895 and $ 980 from $ 920 per metric tonne respectively.

The new price is set for April considering the propane-butane blending ratio 35:65. Earlier in March, the price of per 12-kg cylinder increased to Tk 1,391.56 from Tk 1,240. The price hike was also noticed in the previous month.

In February, it was Tk 103.34 from Tk 97.18 per kg. At that time the price of 12-kg LPG increased to Tk 1,240 from Tk 1,018.
