The Ministry of Railways has made it mandatory to show proof of identity to buy train tickets for travelling on different routes across the country.

“The move is intended to ensure the security of passengers and prevent black market ticket sales,” Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said during a press conference at the Railway Bhaban in Dhaka on Wednesday.

“To purchase tickets, travelers must provide their NID cards. A person can purchase up to four tickets at once, but he must also present the NID cards of the others,” said the minister.

“If a person does not have a NID card, they can provide their birth certificate, student ID card, or any other form of proof of identity instead,” he added.
