The government implemented 45.56 per cent of the annual development programme (ADP) from July to March of the current fiscal year. The ADP implementation rate was 41.92 per cent in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

The rate was 10.53 per cent in March of FY22, which was 7.23 per cent in the same month of the last fiscal year, said the ADP progress report released by the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) under the Planning Commission.

The data was revealed at the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council’s (ECNEC) meeting on Tuesday, which was held at the NEC conference room in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

The IMED data shows the government spent Tk 98,934.92 crore on revised ADP projects between July and March of the current fiscal year out of the allocation of Tk 2,17,175.35 crore. 1,754 projects were included in the FY22 ADP.

In FY21, the ADP implementation rate was 82.21 per cent. The government spent Tk 1,72,051 crore on ADP projects out of the Tk 2,09,272 crore allocation that year while there were 1,946 projects.

The IMED found that the Statistics and Informatics Division spent the lowest, 3.94 per cent, on ADP in the first nine months of FY22 while the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division spent the highest, 98 per cent.

The Parliament Secretariat spent its full ADP allocation in these nine months while the defence ministry spent 19.58 per cent.

Besides, the industries ministry spent 75.76 per cent of its allocation while the Financial Institutions Division spent 35.73 per cent.

Planning Minister MA Mannan told reporters at a press conference after the ECNEC meeting that the government wants to implement the development projects on schedule.

The FY22 project implementation rate had increased compared to the Covid-19 period, he said.

“We want to ensure quality work while implementing projects. We will focus more on implementing projects on time. We will spend the full ADP allocations from the next fiscal year,” he also added.
