The sales of advance train tickets for the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays begins but the ticket counters at the Kamalapur Railway Station were swarming with passengers seeking tickets for trips on Apr 27– Rajib Dhar

Majharul Islam, a private firm employee, on Friday queued up at Kamalapur Railway Station for an advanced train ticket of April 27, but failed to buy one.

“I wanted to go to my ancestral village home in Dinajpur on the occasion of Eid ul-Fitr. Despite being in the line for 10 hours, I could not avail one,” Mr Islam gave vent to his frustration.

“Now I am the first man in this line to buy the ticket for next day. Tomorrow ticket will be issued for April 28 ahead of the Eid journey,” he told this correspondent.

Imran Ali is just after Majharul who flopped down on the station floor being tired. Hundreds of people have queued up in the country’s central rail station to buy advance train tickets.

They alleged that the railway authority started issuing tickets for Eid special trip from 8am but all ticket counters were closed around 11.30pm.

A visit to the rail station found that thousands of passengers glued to the station area while many of them left the place in utter disappointment.

Mohammad Masud Sarwer, station manager, Kamalapur Railway Station, told The Business Post around 27,000 tickets for April-27 journey from Dhaka have been sold out manually and online from five stations.

The five that sell Eid special tickets manually include Tejgaon, Dhaka Airport, Dhaka Cantonment and Fulbaria of Bongo Bazar in Dhaka.

“shohoz.com is our online ticket booking partner. Passengers can book their tickets online without any hassle,” said the station manager.

“There are some VIP tickets now. These tickets will be on sale,” he told this correspondent at 1pm on Saturday.

According to Farhat Ahmed, public relations officer of shohoz.com, around 50,000 rail tickets for April-27 journey from the capital were issued online yesterday (Saturday). Passengers, however, said shohoz.com website was hung up Saturday morning and so they showed up at Kamalapur Station.

Samsul Haque, a Khulna-bound passenger, said he had been trying to purchase a ticket through shohoz.com from 8am on Saturday, but to no avail.

“At last, I rushed to Kamalapur to get a ticket for Benapole Express Train,” he added. The advance ticket sale started at 8am from Kamlapur, Airport, Tejgaon, Cantonment and Fulbaria rail stations. The authorities of Bangladesh Railway will start the sale of return tickets on May 1.

The Intercity train tickets for North Bengal and Khulna are being sold manually at Kamalapur Railway Station.

The Chattogram-Noakhali bound train tickets are available at Dhaka Airport station while Mymensingh-Jamalpur-Dewanganj-bound train tickets at Tejgaon station, Mohongonj-bound train tickets at Dhaka Cantonment station and Sylhet-Kishoreganj-bound train tickets at Fulbaria old station.
