Bus tickets sell like hot cakes ahead of Eid

Advance bus tickets have been selling like hotcakes for long-distance journeys from April 28 till May 1 in the run-up to the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.

Around 80 per cent of all long-distance bus tickets for these four days have already been sold out, according to top coach operators.

They fear that the traffic congestion will likely be worse this year during Eid than in the previous two years, as Covid-related movement restrictions are no longer in force.

Hanif Enterprise is the largest bus service in Bangladesh and operates AC and non-AC coaches to a total of 123 destinations.

A visit to the Sayedabad bus terminal revealed that its tickets for Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar, Dhaka- Barishal, and Dhaka-Khulna are almost 90 per cent sold.

Desh Travel is a popular AC and non-AC service to Dhaka-Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj routes and 100 per cent of its tickets have been sold out.

Shohag Paribahan has around 300 buses running on various routes. The company sold 80 per cent of the tickets for April 28 till May 1.

Mohammad Yasin, sales executive of Saudia Paribahan told The Business Post that long distances bus tickets of top coaches were mostly sold out.

According to a recent study conducted by the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), about three million travellers will leave Dhaka in each of the four days until Eid.
