Abdur Rouf Talukder new BB governor

Senior Secretary of the Finance Division Abdur Rouf Talukder has been made the new governor of the Bangladesh Bank for the next four years.

The Financial Institutions Division under the Ministry of Finance issued a circular announcing his appointment on Saturday.

He will replace incumbent Governor Fazle Kabir, who served for six years in two phases and will complete his tenure on July 3.

Rouf has been appointed on the condition of retiring from government service and giving up his relationship with other organisations, said the circular signed by Jehad Uddin, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Finance.

He joined the Bangladesh Civil Service in February 1988 (BCS 1985 batch).

Rouf worked in a wide range of government positions in his long illustrious career, but his specialisation in public finance and economic management brought him back to the Finance Division.

He had worked for more than 18 years in the Finance Division before being elevated to the position of finance secretary on July 17, 2018.

He holds an MSc in development management from the University of Birmingham and an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration under the University of Dhaka.
