The Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA) is creating a fund to help the flood-affected people in different districts – including in Sylhet and Sunamganj regions of the country.
An organisation of insurance company owners, the BIA on Sunday sent a letter signed by its President Sheikh Kabir Husain to the chairpersons of all life and non-life insurance firms seeking their contribution to this fund.
The association also requested the insurances companies to settle both life and non-life insurance claims currently pending in the flood-hit regions.
In its letter, the organisation said, “The BIA has taken an initiative to set up a fund on an emergency basis to help the victims in flood-affected areas. It is requested to send a grant of TK 1 lakh from your insurance company to the fund of the association.
“Your insurance company is requested to provide relief and other assistance to the flood affected people as much as possible.” The association also urged the officials and employees of insurance companies in these areas to stand beside the flood-hit people amid the ongoing crisis.
The letter mentions that the floods have severely impacted different parts of the country, especially Sunamganj, Sylhet, Netrokona, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Rangpur and Jamalpur districts.
This situation has reached alarming proportions in regions such as Sunamganj and Sylhet, and a humanitarian catastrophe has been observed in the flood-hit areas.
