BTRC to formulate guidelines on cell tower sharing

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on Tuesday said that it will draft an active sharing guideline that will include a provision for telecom operators to share cell towers in an effort to improve connectivity throughout the country.

BTRC Chairman Shyam Sunder Shikder made the announcement at a consultation workshop on connectivity for educational institutions for blended learning, ‘Bangladesh Broadband Policy 2022’, held at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Sonargaon in the capital. The workshop focused on capacity building, digital skills training, and education.

BTRC chairman said, “An active sharing guideline is underway that will cover everything related to improving connectivity.”

“We had told all mobile network operators to launch super-fast fifth-generation technology by December during a spectrum auction on June 31. And now, I can confirm that they will indeed launch the 5G tech as per schedule,” he said.

Speaking at the program as the chief guest, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar called upon the government officials concerned and private entrepreneurs to come forward to build a digital highway to enhance connectivity.

He also directed BTRC to take the initiative so that the cellular network operators can take effective steps to expand 5G technology.

BTRC Director General Brig Gen Nasim Parvez presented the keynote paper at the program.
