Pipeline to be built to supply gas

The government will construct a pipeline to supply gas to Mymensingh Power Plant to generate 420MW electricity to provide uninterrupted power supply to the area.

To this end, the Power Division has undertaken a project titled ‘Construction of Gas Pipeline from Dhunua to Mymensingh to Supply Gas to Mymensingh Combined Cycle Power Plant’.

It has already been sent to the Planning Commission for approval, a senior official of the Planning Commission told The Business Post.

If the project is implemented, uninterrupted supply of gas to Mymensingh Combined Cycle Power Plant will enable smooth power generation, he said.

Under the project, 420MW electricity generated from the Mymensingh Combined Cycle Power Plant will be supplied to the national grid. This will ensure uninterrupted power supply from the grid, he added.

The cost of the project is estimated at Tk553 crore of which Tk418.59 crore will come from the government exchequer and Tk134.56 crore from the Rural Power Company Limited (RPCL).

The RPCL will implement the project by December 2024.

The project will be implemented at Sripur Upazila of Gazipur, Mymensingh Sadar, Valuka, Gafargaon and Trishal Upazila of Mymensingh district.

According to the project proposal, RPCL has already taken another project titled ‘Mymensingh 360MW Combined Cycle Power Plant’ to provide uninterrupted supply of power.

The power project at an estimated cost of Tk1, 958.26 crore has been under implementation since January 2022. It will end in December 2024.

The main components of the project are acquisition of 84.63 acres of land, construction of gas pipeline and ancillary infrastructure from Dhanua to Mymensingh and installation of river crossing in HDD system.

Besides, Town Border Station and SCADA system and CP system will be set up on EPC basis.

According to General Economics Division (GED), the 8th Five-Year Plan will create an efficient and affordable power generation structure by reducing system losses in power transmission and distribution systems.

Through this, the goal has been set to ensure affordable, reliable, modern and uninterrupted electricity service for all.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved the project recently.
