HC: Banking sector seeing most serious crimes

The High Court (HC) today said the country’s banking sector is seeing most serious crimes, which are crippling the country.

“Most serious crimes are taking place in the country’s banking sector. How can the country move forward with these,” the High Court said.

A High Court division bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat came up with the observation while hearing plea for anticipatory bail by four people convicted in a graft case.

“The application is disposed of with direction to surrender within four weeks from date,” the court said in its order.

Five officials of Islami Bank’s Shibganj branch in Chapainawabganj were brought under trial for their alleged role in misappropriating Taka 2.30 lakh of the bank through loan forgery. Of the five accused, four including Md Abu Bakar filed the plea for anticipatory bail.

The High Court during today’s hearing said it would have sent the petitioners to jail in connection with the case, but did not do so as the amount is small.
