Bangabandhu Tunnel to open to traffic in December

Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam has said that the two tubes of the Bangabandhu Tunnel built under the Karnaphuli River will be opened in December.

He disclosed the information while talking to reporters after a special meeting with government officials of different departments, including the Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Division, on Friday.

Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) Chairman ABM Azad was also present at the meeting where several issues including the current situation of the country, law and order, development activities, and the involvement of common people with the administration were discussed.

“The completion of the tunnel project on time is an immensely encouraging event which proves our capability, Khandaker Anwarul Islam said. The cabinet secretary also said that work is underway to equalise the dollar price in the bank and the open market. The government is taking necessary steps to solve the gas crisis as well.

The government has not yet taken any decision regarding the increase in the price of fuel in the country, he added.
