The Jatiya Party has strongly opposed the use of Electronic Voting Machines in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The party secretary general Mujibul Haque said, “We do not have any confidence in EVMs. I personally have no confidence in it either. Many people think that there is nothing to do if the votes are changed in the EVM because the result cannot be rechecked.”
JaPa, the main opposition party in the Jatiya Sangsad, made this observation while participating in a dialogue with the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday.
The party believes that dispatching ballot papers to the centre the night before polls facilitates rigging and therefore, the party demanded dispatching ballot papers on the morning of the poll.
“But it (voting) happens at night. It happens, we have done it also. What else is there to say except that it happens,” Jatiya Party Secretary General Mujibul Haque said in the dialogue.
A delegation led by the JaPa secretary general participated in the EC dialogue Sunday morning. The chief election commissioner (CEC) and other election commissioners were present at the event held at the Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon in Dhaka.
