India’s northeastern state Assam is going to purchase 30 Gbps bandwidth from Bangladesh.

An Assam Electronics Development Corporation delegation expressed its interest in making the purchase during a meeting with Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar at the ministry’s Secretariat office in the capital on Tuesday.

Both parties would complete the deal in November, according to an official press note.

Assam Electronics Development Corporation is a government-owned entity of the state of Assam.

At the meeting, the Indian delegation was led by Kumbamut Nongbri, joint secretary (IT) of the Meghalaya state, while Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Managing Director Md Shahab Uddin was also present.

Jabbar said Bangladesh would be connected to the third submarine cable, which would add 13,200 Gbps bandwidth. He said exporting bandwidth is not a problem for Bangladesh as there is a surplus.

Bangladesh’s current bandwidth demand is 3,800 Gbps while the number of data subscribers stands at 13 crore, increasing from only eight lakh in 2008, the minister added.
