The investigation committee has found the Chinese contractor responsible for five deaths in girder collapse.

The committee has recommended punishment for the contractor responsible for the deaths. The committee submitted the investigation report to the Road Transport Secretary on Thursday.

However, the investigation report has not yet been published officially but a source told the media that the contractor’s negligence was responsible for the accident.

When asked, Additional Chief Engineer of Roads and Highway Department Sabuj Uddin Khan declined to comment on the submission of the report.

According to the source of the committee, the investigation report contains statements of around 20 people including imprisoned crane operator Al Amin Hossain Hriday.

During investigation statements of 10 Chinese citizens were also taken. Although 10 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in the girder accident, no action has yet been taken against any Chinese in this regard.

China Gezhouba Group Company Limited was working at the place where five people were killed in girder collapse. Another Chinese company, Jiangsu Provincial Transportation Engineering Group Co. Ltd, is the contractor for the BRT’s aerial part.

Earlier, at least five people including two children were crushed to death after a girder, a part of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, fell on a car in Uttara. Two others were injured in the accident that took place on August 15 near Jasimuddin area.
