Former BAIRA secretary general Md Ruhul Amin Shawpon distributed some Tk 100 crore among at least 300 voters to ensure his victory in the elections of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA), members of the association alleged on Saturday.
“The panel led by Shawpon distributed the amount to buy votes. However, the money did not bring him any result,” a voter, closed to Shawpon, told The Business Post seeking anonymity.
Other voters also confirmed the matter to the daily.
Former BAIRA president and incumbent MP Benjir Ahmed was the panel’s chief coordinator who coordinated the whole election campaign for Shawpon.
In addition, the panel gathered a huge number of migrant aspirants from different places of the country during the polls to strengthen their side and fed them for the whole day. But the gathering failed to bring victory for the panel.
