Former president of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) Mohd Noor Ali urged the newly-formed executive committee of the association to make BAIRA a properly functional organisation working with utmost transparency.

Noor Ali, under whose prudent leadership Sammilita Oikya Parishad headed by Abul Basher clinched a landslide victory in the elections on September 3, was speaking as the chief guest at the handover ceremony of the BAIRA presidency at its office Thursday afternoon.

On September 4, Sammilita Oikya Parishad nominated Mohammed Abul Basher and Shammeem Ahmed Chowdhury Noman respectively as the president and secretary general of the manpower recruiters’ platform.

Thanking all the candidates of the elections, Noor Ali said the spontaneous participation from all the candidates and voters resulted in a much-desired festive election.

Urging the newly elected BAIRA leaders to form an advisory committee where members from different federations, former BAIRA presidents or experts concerned could be included, he said, “So that no one can term the executive committee as Abul Basher’s pocket committee. It will also ensure transparency of the committee.”

He suggested the executive committee publish a 100-day target for BAIRA so that their activities during the first three months could be evaluated later.

The former BAIRA president also urged the president to ensure a collective environment in the association so that the four candidates elected from other panels do not feel like outsiders.

“For our own betterment, the 27 members of the executive committee have to work together as a team,” he said, adding that those who are not committed to BAIRA, should never lead the association. Noor Ali alleged that the chaos created centring the Malaysian labour market is the result of having no elected executive committee in BAIRA as it was led by an administrator appointed by the commerce ministry for the last 21 months.

The newly elected president Mohammed Abul Basher took the charge from BAIRA secretary as Md Daudul Islam, the administrator appointed by the commerce ministry, was not present at the programme.

He sent his letter of release to the BAIRA Secretary Mohammad Maksudur Rahman so that the handover ceremony of the BAIRA presidency could be completed smoothly.

While taking the charge of the offices, the newly elected President Abul Basher said they would try to fulfil their pre-election promises within their tenure at BAIRA. “During our two years tenure, all-out efforts will be made to ensure our moto – Business is for those who have a license,” he added.

On September 3, Sammilita Oikya Parishad leader Mohammed Abul Basher secured the highest 506 votes while opponent BAIRA Sammilita Ganatantrik Jote leader Ruhul Amin Shawpon bagged only 428 votes. The latter, however, secured membership in the 27-member BAIRA EC committee. As many as 969 voters, out of 1042, cast their votes in the poll.
