Govt cuts palm oil, sugar prices

The Ministry of Commerce has reduced the price of palm oil by Tk 12 to Tk 133 per litre.

Besides, the ministry also revised the prices of refined loose and packaged sugar by Tk 6 per kg to Tk 84 and Tk 89 respectively.

A notification was issued in this regard on Thursday.

The new prices will come into effect from September 25. The government set the prices as per the recommendations made by the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission.

Earlier, the government fixed the price of palm oil at Tk 145 per litre which took effect from August 23 while sugar was sold at Tk 90-95 in the local market.

However, the prices of loose and bottled soybean oil — which were also revised on August 23 — have remained unchanged.

Bottled soybean oil was set at Tk 192 per litre, loose soybean oil at Tk 175 per litre while a five-litre bottle of the commodity was retailed at Tk 945.
