The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Wednesday approved a proposal for procuring some 90,000 metric tons of fertiliser aiming to meet the spiralling demand of the country.
The approval came at the 29th meeting of CCGP held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.
The cabinet meeting approved a total of six proposals on Wednesday including a proposal to purchase 30,000 metric tons of phosphoric acid.
Among the six proposals, four were from the Ministry of Industries while one each from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and the Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED).
The Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries will procure some 30,000 metric tons of bagged granular urea fertiliser from KAFCO, Bangladesh under the 6th lot with around Tk 197.46 crore, another 30,000 metric tons of bulk granular urea fertiliser from Muntajat of Qatar under the 6th lot with around Tk 200.55 crore.
Besides, the BCIC will also procure another 30,000 metric tons of bulk granular urea fertiliser from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company, Saudi Arabia under the 9th lot with around Tk 200.55 crore while the BCIC would procure some 30,000 metric tons of phosphoric acid for DAP Fertilizer Company Limited with around Tk 233.82 crore.
Following a proposal from the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) under the IMED, the meeting approved the package number AFS-02 under the project for digitising implementation, monitoring and public procurement paving the way for appointing the joint venture of Dohatec Media Bangladesh and GSS Infotech Ltd India as consultants with around Tk 51.23 crore.
Besides, the meeting also approved another proposal for appointing The Engineers and Architects Ltd as the contractor for building three 14-storey residential buildings at Mohammadpur Housing Estate in the capital with around Tk 144.37 crore.
