‘Rohingya extremists’ abduct 2 Bangladeshis

Two Bangladeshis were allegedly abducted by “Rohingya extremists” from Teknaf on Thursday.

Altogether four men were abducted, but two of them managed to escape. One of them was admitted to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

The four Bangladeshis were abducted from the Morichyaghona area of ​​the Hnila Union of Teknaf Upazila of Cox’s Bazar around 10:30am, Hnila union Chairman Rashed Mohammad Ali confirmed citing the two escapees. According to the chairman, a group of extremists abducted Nazir Ahmad and his son Saddam Hossain, as well as Md Shahjahan and Md Mehedi from Morichyaghona.

While taking the four men away, the abductors encountered another group of Rohingya extremists and a gunfight erupted. Taking advantage of the commotion, Shahjahan and Mehedi managed to slip away, but Shahjahan ended up being shot by the abductors.

When contacted, Teknaf police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Hafizur Rahman said, “I heard from the locals that two people have been abducted. We are inquiring about who are involved in the incident. We will conduct an operation to rescue the abducted.”
