The main religious festival for the Hindu community, Durga Puja, will officially end today with the immersion of the idol of goddess Durga in rivers and other water bodies on October 5.
Following a Bijaya procession, the idols will be abandonment after ending all the formalities of Puja.
Idol abandonment will start from 4 pm. Earlier on Saturday, Hindus begun celebrating the Puja following Chandipath, Bodhan and Debi’s abode. This year, the Durga festival is being held in 32,118 puja mandaps across the country. There are 238 puja mandaps in Dhaka metropolis, which is four more than last time.
This year, Durga puja is being held at 32,168 mandaps across the country, including 241 in the capital.
Adequate security measures have been taken for smooth and peaceful celebrations of the festival, according to police.
Additional personnel of the police force Ansar, the Rapid Action Battalion and other law enforcement agencies have been roped in for deployment in puja mandaps to ensure full-proof security.
