TCB sale for Oct begins after supply delay

The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will start selling essential commodities at subsidised prices for the month of October from today, following a delay caused by supply problems.

In this phase, TCB will sell four essential products at subsidised prices among one crore low-income families with family cards across the country, according to a press statement on Sunday.

The government organisation began selling commodities, including oil, sugar, pulses and onions, at affordable prices to one crore families across the country from March this year amid rising food prices. Distribution of the commodities usually begins on the first week of each month and comes to a close at the end of the month.

During the sales period, a cardholder can buy a maximum of two litres of soybean oil, two kg of lentils, one kg of sugar and two kg of onions.

Soybean oil will be sold at Tk 110 per litre, sugar at Tk 55 per kg, lentils at Tk 65 and onion at Tk 20 per kg. The current market price for bottled oil is Tk 178 per litre, sugar Tk 95 per kg and pulses Tk 105 per kg.

Cardholders will be able to purchase the products from TCB appointed dealers’ shops or designated sale points.

City corporations, district and upazila administrations will assist dealers with the sales.
