The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for the month of November has increased by Tk 4.25 per kg to Tk 104.26 which was Tk 100.01 in October.

As per the new price, the retail price of 12 kg LPG cylinder in Novembers will be Tk 1,251 which was Tk 1,200 in the last month. The new price was effective from yesterday evening.

Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the new price through a virtual press briefing on Wednesday.

The prices of other sizes of cylinders, from 5.5 kg to 45 kg, will also increase as per the new price of per kg LPG, said BERC Chairman Abdul Jalil, adding that the prices of government LPG would remain unchanged.

The price of LPG marketed by state-owned LP Gas Company, which has less than 5% market share, will remain as usual as it is locally produced.

BERC has also increased the price of auto gas (LPG used for motor vehicles) to Tk 58.28 per litre which was Tk 54.33 in the last month.

Abdul Jalil informed that the US Dollar exchange rate was considered at Tk 106.25 while fixing the new price. “Though the LPG price has substantially come down in the global market, consumers are not getting full advantage of the downward trend due to the high dollar price in the local market,” he said.

The 12 kg LPG cylinder price went up to the highest Tk 1,439 in the local market in February last, following the start of the Russia-Ukraine war.

This year, the price of a 12 kg cylinder was the lowest at Tk 1,225 in January, but since then it witnessed continuous hikes in February, March and April.
