New investments expand ceramic production

The production of ceramic products increased 200 per cent in the last decade due to fresh investment in the sector.

Ceramic production expanded rapidly in the last decade due to 20 per cent investment increase, said Md Shirajul Islam Mollah, president of Bangladesh Ceramic Manufacturers and Exporters Association, said a press release.

He came up with the remarks on the second day of Ceramic Expo Bangladesh 2022 at International Convention City Bashundhara in the capital on Friday. Three-day fair started on November 24 and will conclude on November 26.

“The local market of the ceramic industry has reached Tk7000 crore while the country earned another Tk500 crore from ceramic exports. Currently, more than 50 countries are importing ceramic products from Bangladesh”, Shirajul said.

The sector received Tk15,000 investment which created employment for around 0.5 million people directly and indirectly, he said.  

The demand of Bangladeshi ceramic products is increasing both in home and abroad due to its quality and aesthetic designs, said Irfan Uddin, secretary of the Association, adding that, the fair provided an opportunity for both consumers-buyers and manufacturers for buying and showcasing various products simultaneously.

Different types of ceramic products including tiles, sanitary products and table wares were exhibited in the fair where different companies presented their new products, technologies and proficiencies under a single roof. Besides, buyers can order or purchase ceramic goods from the spot.

The fair remains open from 10am to 7pm for the visitors where seminars, job fair, B2B meeting, raffle draw, gifts, and live demonstration have also been arranged for the visitors.
