The combined pass rate in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations decreased to 87.44 per cent this year against 93.58 per cent of last year.
Besides, the number of examinees securing GPA-5 increased to 2,69,602 this year against 183,340 in the previous year.
Data shows that the pass rate decreased by 6.14 per cent this year while the number of GPA 5 achievers increased by 86,262 in the exams.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni provided the details of the results at a press briefing at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital’s Segunbagicha on Monday.
Earlier on the day, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nawfel and chairman of all education boards handed over the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office.
According to the results, 19,94,137 examinees appeared in the SSC and equivalent examinations from 29,639 educational institutions under 11 education boards and 17,43,619 of them came out successful. Among them, 8,70,046 are boys and 8,73,573 are girls.
Data shows that female students who sat for the SSC and equivalent examinations outnumbered male students – in terms of pass rate and GPA 5 this year.
Results show that 87.71 per cent of female students passed the exams, compared to 87.16 per cent of male students. Besides, 148,446 female students got GPA of 5, compared to 121,156 male students.
In terms of GPA-5 obtainers, the Dhaka board kept its consistency in securing the top position in terms of obtaining GPA-5 since the grading system was introduced in 2001.
A total of 64,984 students scored GPA-5 in the Dhaka board, 42,517 in Rajshahi, 19,998 in Cumilla, 30,892 in Jashore, 18,664 in Chattogram, 10,068 in Barishal, 7,565 in Sylhet, 25,586 in Dinajpur, 15,216 in Mymensingh, 15,457 in Madrasah, and 18,655 in Technical education board.
The nine general education boards saw a combined pass rate of 88.10 per cent, the Madrasah Education Board 82.22 per cent and the Technical Education Board 89.55 per cent.
The Jessore education board secured the top position with a 95.17 per cent pass rate on average while the Sylhet board was at the bottom with a 78.82 per cent pass rate.
The pass rate of Dhaka Board is 90.03 per cent while it is 85.88 per cent in Rajshahi Board, 91.28 per cent in Cumilla Board, 89.61 per cent in Barishal Board, 81.16 per cent in Dinajpur Board, 87.53 per cent in Chittagong Board, and 89.02 per cent in Mymensingh board.
Results also show that the number of 100 per cent pass educational institutions decreased to 2,975 this year from 5,494 institutions of last year.
Besides, the zero pass educational institutions increased to 50 this year from 18 institutions of the last year.
A total of 348 students out of 363 from eight foreign centres have come out successful in the SSC examinations with a 95.87 per cent pass rate.
Data also shows that science group students have kept their consistency in securing the top position in terms of group wise results among nine general education boards with a 97.09 per cent pass rate followed by 80.82 per cent from business studies, and 91.84 per cent from the humanities groups.
Dipu Moni at the press conference congratulated the students who come out successful and asked students, who failed to pass the exams, to be more attentive to their studies.
Responding to a question, she said the government will provide the necessary support to the institutions which have been enlisted in zero pass rates this year.
She said various initiatives taken by the government which include distributing textbooks for free to students, broadcasting classes of experts in television, and widespread use of technology as an educational tool have a significant contribution to the good results.
Besides, some special measures were also taken for the students of flood-affected areas while some other measures including online classes, assignments and continuing regular classes were also taken to make up the overall learning loss due to the Covid-19 pandemic, she added.
