The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has once again increased the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to Tk 1,297 for a 12kg cylinder.
Previously, a consumer had to pay Tk 1,251 for a 12kg-cylinder.
BERC Chairman Md Abdul Jalil announced the new price at a virtual press conference. The new price will be effective from 6 pm on the day of the announcement. As per the announcement, the price of autogas (LPG used for motor vehicles) has also increased.
BERC Secretary Khalilur Rahman Khan, members Maqbul-e Elahi Chowdhury, Abu Faruque, and other high officials were also present at the press conference.
According to the BERC, other LPG cylinders – from 5.5kg to 45kg – will go up rationally. As per the decision, auto gas will be sold for Tk 60.41 per litre which was Tk 58.28 earlier.
In November, the price of a 12kg cylinder of LPG, mostly used for cooking, was increased by Tk51 to Tk 1,251.
The price of LPG, marketed by state-owned LP Gas Company, will remain as usual as it is locally produced with a market share of less than 5%.
The LPG price went up highest to Tk 1,439 (per 12kg cylinder), in the local market, following the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war in February this year.
LPG price in Bangladesh was the lowest at Tk 1,225 for a 12kg cylinder in January this year and it witnessed continuous hikes in February, March and April.
