Govt to honour 141 taxpayers

The government is set to honour 141 individual and companies with tax cards for their outstanding contribution to the public exchequer in tax year 2021-22.

In a gazette notification issued by the Internal Resources Division on December 18, the finance ministry unveiled the names of taxpayers under three categories including 75 individuals, 54 companies and 12 in other category as the tax card winners.

The NBR will honour the tax payers at a ceremony at capital’s Officers Club on December 28.

The government has selected the top taxpayers as per the National Tax Card Policy 2010 (amended).

Organisations:

Standard Chartered Bank Ltd, Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd, the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd and Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd were selected in banking category under company level.

Infrastructure Development Company Limited, IDLC Finance Limited, Investment Corporation of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited will be awarded in non-banking financial institution category.

Grameenphone Limited was selected under telecommunication category and engineering category award will go to Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory, Bangladesh Steel Re-Rolling Mills and National Development Engineers Ltd.

Olympic Industries Ltd, Pran Dairy Ltd and Square Food & Beverage Limited were selected under food and beverage category and energy category taxpayers are Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd, Jamuna Oil Company Ltd and Petromax Refinery Ltd.

Jute industry award is going to Akij Jute Mills Ltd, Aiyan Jute Mills Ltd and Roman Jute Mills Ltd and under the spinning and textile category while Coats Bangladesh Ltd, Paramount Textile Ltd, Nahid Cotton Mills Ltd, ACS Textiles (BD) Ltd, Badsha Textile Mills Ltd, Apex Textile Printing Mills Limited and NZ Textile Ltd will be also awarded.

Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Renata Limited and Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd were selected under medicine and chemistry category while Mediastar Limited, East West Media Group Ltd, Somoy Media Ltd and Times Media Ltd under the Print and Electronic Media category.

Bay Developments Ltd, Concord Real Estate and Development Ltd and Building Technology and Ideas Ltd were selected under the real estate category.

Ready-made garment category award goes to Square Fashion Ltd, Universal Jeans Limited, Zaber and Zubair Fabrics Ltd, Rifat Garments Ltd, Youngone Hi-Tech Sportswear Industries Ltd, Pacific Jeans Ltd and Snowtex Outerwear Ltd.

Leather industry category tax card goes to Bata Shoe Company (Bangladesh) Ltd, Alliance Leather Goods and Footwear Ltd and Lalmai Footwear Ltd while other category tax award goes to British American Tobacco Bangladesh Ltd, Sheikh Akij Uddin, American Life Insurance Company and Meghnaghat Power Limited.

Farm category award goes to Messrs SN Corporation, Messrs Fakhor Uddin Ali Ahmed, Messrs Md Jamil Iqbal, and Messrs Saleh Ahmmad.

Local authority category award goes to Bangladesh Bridge Authority and Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board and association of person tax card goes to Sena Kalyan Sangstha head office and Bangladesh Police Kallyan Trust.

The other category goes to ASA, Bureau Bangladesh, United Development Initiatives for Programmed Actions, Resource Integration centre (RIC).

Individuals:

Md Kaus Mia, Khawaza Tazmahal, Fazlur Rahman, M Sahabuddin Ahmed and Khandaker Badrul Hassan will get tax cards under senior citizen category while A Matin Chowdhury, Md Nasir Uddin Mridha, Md Amzad Hossain, Md Joynal Abedin, Lieutenant General Abu Saleh Mohammad Nasim (retired) will get under gazetted injured freedom-fighters.

Akram Mahmud, Dr Md Mamunur Rashid, and Lubna Nigar were selected under physically-challenged taxpayers and Anwara Hossain, Amina Ahmed, Shahnaz Rahman, Tasmin Mahmood as well as Parveen Hasan are going get the tax card under women category.

Safwan Sobhan, Asif Iqbal Mahmud, Nasiruddin Akhter Rashid, Raisa Sigma Hima, and Robin Razon Sakhawat will get under young (below 40 years) category. Those are selected under specialised category.

Besides, the business category goes to Golam Dastogir Gazi, SM Ashraful Alam, SM Shamsul Alam, Md Mahbubur Rahman, Gazi, Golam, Murtoza and salaried category goes to Mohammad Yousuf, Rubayat Farzana Hossain, Hosne Ara Hossain, Laila Hossain and MA Haider Hossain.

Jahangir Kabir, AKM Fazlul Haque, Pran Gopal Dutta, Nargis Fatema and NAM Momenuzzaman were selected under doctor category and journalist category tax card will go to Faridur Reza, Mahfuz Anam, Matiur Rahman, Shykh Seraj and Naem Nizam.

Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Ahsanul Karim, Tawfika Aftab, Nihad Kabir and Abu Mohammad Amin Uddin are going to get tax cards under lawyer category while Mohammad Jahirul Islam, Mohammad Mokhlesur Rahman and Mohammad Abdullah will get under engineer category.

Architect category is going to Mohammad Fayez Ullah, Enamul Karim Nirjhor and Yeafesh Osman while Mashuk Ahmed, Md Mokter Hossain and Rakesh Shaha will be awarded as accountant professionals.

Eric M Walker, Obaidul Islam Kiron, Nazma Akter, Luis Enrique Mayorga Moncada, Jumara Begum, Sakeb Mohammad Ali, and Sadruddin Ahsan Ali were selected under new taxpayer category.

Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal Khan, and Nurul Hasan Sohan were named under player category and Mahfuz Ahmed, Mehazabien Chowdhury and Pijush Bandyopadhyay under actor and actress category.

Tahsan Rahman Khan, SD Rubel, and Kumar Bishwajit will get tax card again under as singer category and other individual category goes to Md Nazrul Islam Mazumder, Md Monir Hossain, Nafis Sikder.

Benefits of the tax cards

According to the revised National Tax Card Policy 2010, tax card holders will get invitations to various state functions and will get tickets on a priority basis for travel by road, air, and waterways.

They will be given preference even in booking hotels and restaurants and will get access to the VIP lounge at the airport. The tax card holders and their families will get hospital beds on a priority basis.
