Twenty firms have been honoured with the President’s Award for Industrial Development 2020 for their remarkable contributions to industrialisation, employment generation, and overall development of the economy.
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun handed over the awards at an event held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Thursday.
Speaking as the chief guest, he said industries are playing a vital role in economic development.
“Bangladesh is an example of development for many. Our gross domestic product (GDP) growth was the highest in South Asia. Also, our growth is more than the average of the global GDP growth,” he said.
Humayun urged the award recipients to come up with more innovations in the near future to make the development sustainable.
State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder, Industries Secretary Zakia Sultana, and Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Md Jashim Uddin spoke at the event, among others.
The awards were conferred in six categories – large, medium, small, cottage, micro, and hi-tech. Five firms in the large industry category, five in the medium industry category, four in the small industry category, one in the micro industry category, two in the cottage industry category, and three in the hi-tech industry category received awards.
Runner Automobiles and Incepta Pharmaceuticals jointly got the first prize in the large industry category while BRB Cable Industries and Fariha Spinning Mills jointly bagged the second prize. Envoy Textiles got the third prize.
In the medium industry category, Noman Terry Towel Mills was awarded the first prize while Mascotex and APS Design Works were conferred
the second prize. Bengal Polymer Wires and Aco-Tex jointly won the third prize.
Masco Overseas stood first in the small industry category while Abdul Jalil and Pacific Sea Foods jointly became second. Madhavadi Dyeing Finishing Mills got the third position. Moscow Dairy Enterprise is the only company that won the award in the micro industry category.
In the cottage industries category, Intelligent Card and Rang Mela Nari Kalyan Sanstha (RNKS) won the first and second prizes respectively while Fair Electronics, Mir Telecom and Service Engine bagged the first, second, and third prizes respectively in the hi-tech industry category.
