Despite a low turnout of visitors at Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) mainly due to bone-chilling weather, a good number of people were seen flocking to different stalls of electrical home appliances.
The sellers said electric rice and pressure cooker, hotpot, blender, washing machine, coffee maker, cloth dryer, electric kettle, microwave, and iron are on high demand among visitors as many companies are offering free home delivery with discounts ranging from 15 to 50 per cent this year.
Sales in-charge at Minister Hi-Tech Park Limited Taibur Rahman told The Business Post, “Our home appliances are getting a good response from visitors. Though the presence of visitors is still thin at the fair due to chilly weather, we hope that sales would boost from Friday.”
Their company is offering 15 per cent discount on electrical home appliances, 22 per cent on washing machine, and 40 per cent on LED television set, and 50 per cent on refrigerator in spot sale at the fair, he added.
Chief Business Officer (CBO) of Walton Home Appliances Al Imran said hundreds of models of electronics and electrical products, including more than 30 models of products from home and kitchen appliances of Walton are being displayed at Walton Mega Pavilion at DITF-2023. Walton displays some five models of IoT-based smart washing machine, three models of microwave oven, different models of blender, kettle, oven, rice cooker, cookware, pressure cooker, gas stove, gas HOB, induction cooker and infrared cooker.
“Walton’s IOT-based washing machine modeled as WWM-AFC90WI, WWM-AFT80W, WWM-ATV90 and WWM-TWP100S can easily be operable with smartphones as it has Wi-Fi enabled smart control system. Besides, Walton showcases one upcoming model of washing machine that features dual drum with soft touch LED display. Other features of washing machines include air wash, intelligent drying, stain wash, oxy-fresh and anti-bacterial door seal that keeps the machine protected from bacteria. It has also features like rust-free intelligent drum, VCM cabinet, anti-bacterial pulsator etc,” he added.
“Although we have many products in our stock but the latest and most demanded products are being displayed at this year’s fair. This year Walton’s new attraction for customers is its smart washing machines. We have already got huge customers’ response for washing machine,” Imam also said.
According to cash manager of VISTA Electronics Ltd Mehedi Hasan Sultan, they were offering discount up to 25 per cent on different television sets at the fair.
“The fair has yet to attract a large number of visitors still now. We are hopeful that it will gain momentum soon and fulfill exhibitors’ expectations this year,” he added.
A visitor named Fatema Begum said she came at the fair from Dhaka’s Bailey Road with her family members to purchase several electrical home appliances, including pressure cooker, hotpot, washing machine, and an iron at discount.
“As many companies are displaying different types of products at the fair, we can choose right products checking each and every item. Besides, we get a little bit discounts here. So, we came here and purchased several products,” she added.
However, a total of 331 stalls have been set up at the fair venue and 17 of them are of foreign entrepreneurs from 10 countries. The 27th edition of Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) started at Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre (BBCFEC) at Purbachal in Dhaka on January 1.
The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) in collaboration with the Commerce Ministry has been organising the trade fair since 1995. Up to 25 editions, DITF was organised at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
