Banshkhali power plant connected to nat’l grid

The Banshkhali 1,320 MW coal-fired power plant in Chattogram has been connected to the national grid on Saturday.

However, the SS power plant will go into real time generation in next April. The commissioning of the plant will begin tomorrow (Monday) before it goes into commercial generation.

The SS power plant, located in Gondamara area of Banshkhali upazila near the Bay of Bengal, is a joint venture of Chattogram-based S Alam Group and Chinese company SEPCO3.

According to S Alam Group, the power plant was connected to the 400 KV transmission line of the national grid on Saturday. The nine members of back feed committee, led by Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) chief engineer Morshed Alam Khan, reached Banshkhali on Saturday. Morshed Alam Khan turned on the switch and connected it to the national grid.

Morshed Alam Khan said 97 per cent of the SS Power Plant construction work has been completed. The rest of the work includes construction of roads and drains.

SS power plant director Shahidul Alam has claimed that there is no possibility of any environmental pollution through the Banshkhali coal-fired power plant as it has been built using supper critical technology.
