Specialist doctors at government hospitals will have chambers at their respective facility premises, and they will offer healthcare to patients after designated working hours starting from March 1 this year, said Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Sunday.
He made the disclosure while presiding over an “Emergency Meeting on Institutional Practice,” held at the health ministry, and attended by ministry officials and stakeholders from the healthcare sector.
Maleque added, “This initiative will allow specialist doctors at government hospitals to be able to take visits from patients at chambers in their respective workplaces, instead of using chambers in different clinics or pharmacies.
“The government has already taken feedback from industry leaders and other stakeholders in this regard. A high-level committee will soon be formed to move forward with this initiative.”
He then said, “In the interest of public welfare, we will start working on the move from March – the month of our independence. This will free hundreds of thousands of people from the hassle of paying visits to doctors in different clinics or pharmacies”.
