77% progress in fast-track projects till December

Eight ongoing fast tracks projects have witnessed 76.85 per cent progress as the construction works are in full swing, according to the progress report of December prepared by the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division of the Planning Commission.

However, the financial progress of these eight mega projects was 66.88 per cent, the IMED report said.

The government has spent Tk 1,87,293 crore on these eight projects. Of the total amount, Tk 3,06,268 crore has been allocated for completing the projects, the IMED report also said.

The projects are – Padma Multipurpose Bridge, Payra Port, Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar rail link, Rampal super thermal power project, Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (MRT Line 6), Padma Rail Link, Matarbari 2x600MW Ultra Super Critical Coal Fired Power and Maitree Super Thermal Power Project.’ “We are closely monitoring all the fast-track projects. We are sending recommendations to the respective implementing agencies after inspecting the project site,” a senior official of the IMED told The Business Post.

He also said the IMED prepared the monthly progress report after visiting the project site or area.

“We will send the progress report to the Fast Track Task Force through the Economic Relations Division,” he added.

Padma Multipurpose Bridge

On June 25, the Padma Multipurpose Bridge opened for transportation for all. But the work of the project is not completed 100 per cent.

The physical progress of the project is 95.80 per cent while the financial progress of the project is 94.52 per cent

in December. The ancillary works of the project will be completed on June 2023.

Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant

The works of the biggest ever Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project is going in full swing. The financial progress of the project is 51.52 per cent while the physical progress of the project is 53.94 per cent.

Metro Rail Service (MRT-6)

The metro rail from Uttara to Agatgaon has been opened for commuters. The route from Agargaon to Kamlapur is now under construction. The IMED report said the financial progress of the project is 63.10 per cent while the physical progress of the project is 70 per cent.

However, the government escalates the project cost to Tk 33,471 crore for expanding Motijheel to Kamalapur. The tenure of the project has also been extended till June 2024.

Padma Rail Link Project

The progress of the Padma Rail Link project is going fast. The financial progress of the project is 67.18 per cent while the physical progress of the project is 68.50 per cent.

Payra Sea Port

The financial progress of the Payra Sea port is 82 per cent while the physical progress of the project is 87.75 per cent.

Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar Rail Line Project

The physical progress of the project is 78 per cent while the financial progress of the project is 40.01 per cent.

Rampal Power Plant

The power plant also known as Maitree Super Thermal Power Project, has two units, each with a 660MW production capacity. The project is not included in the annual development programme (ADP). The physical progress of the project is 89.58 per cent while its financial progress is 78.53 per cent. The cost of the project is estimated at Tk 16,000 crore.

Matarbari Power Plant

The Matarbari Power Plant project witnessed a physical progress of 70.76 per cent while its financial progress is 56.99 per cent till December.
