The Digital Bangladesh Mela 2023 drew a good number of visitors on the first day of the gala event held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area in the capital on Thursday.
The Posts and Telecommunications Division is organising the three-day fair with the aim to highlight the digital progress of Bangladesh.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the fair through a video message in the morning.
This fair includes 77 pavilions and 52 stalls participated by different ICT solutions providers, telecom operators, mobile financial service providers, internet and infrastructure service providers and more.
Tech-savvy people, IT professionals, businessmen from the ICT sector and IT graduates thronged the fair venue to know more about various latest technologies that can enhance connectivity for achieving the Smart Bangladesh vision.
Shafiq Tuhin, a CSE student at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), was practically testing the latest technology showcased by the Chinese multinational company Huawei at the very first pavilion at the entrance of the fair.
“I have attended the fair from the early hours of the day, to learn about newer technologies and how they work. This is a good opportunity for me to know the pros and cons of the latest technology of Huawei,” Shafiq said.
“Hopefully, I will attend the fair all three days it is scheduled to be held,” he added.
“We are participating in the fair with our solutions for some very important verticals like smart education, smart healthcare, smart digital power, and smart port. We are also demonstrating how the industries can benefit from Huawei Cloud & Computing and 5.5G,” said Tanvir Ahmed, head of media at Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Limited.
“As a global leader in the ICT industry, Huawei invests a significant amount of its revenue in research and development. We want to facilitate others and share the knowledge with ICT ecosystem partners and youths. This fair is a perfect platform to fulfil the aim,” Tanvir added.
Ashis Kumar Khan, CEO of Rasa Technologies, said, “We deal with telecommunication products mainly imported from overseas. We are here to make our valued clients and probable customers aware about our products as well as to analysis the market share. As per our expectations, we have found the fair a good one.”
A total of eight seminars will be held in the three-day fair on the achievements of Digital Bangladesh and the goals of Smart Bangladesh.
Four mobile operators will hold a Mobile Congress for the first time comprising four seminars. There is an innovation zone on the fair premises. Future innovators will showcase IoT, robotics and potential technology innovations.
Along with holography at Mujib Corner in the fair, visitors visited the Liberation War Museum in VR headsets. Various details of 5G facilities were presented to the customers.
Winners of essay and painting competitions along with the best stall and best innovator will get Digital Bangladesh Mela Award.
Postal and Telecommunications Medals will be awarded to 22 individuals/institutions under 14 categories.
Posts and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar presided over the inaugural session of the fair while Education Minister Dipu Moni was present as the chief guest.
