Bhola gas to be added to nat’l grid in 2 months

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has said uninterrupted gas supply will be ensured from April and that is why gas from Bhola will be transformed into CNG before it is supplied to the national grid within two months.

After inaugurating the National Science Fair 2023 at Dhaka Residential Model College on Friday, he told journalists gas prices had been adjusted with global rates.

“As manufacturers have demanded uninterrupted gas supply to factories, we are planning to provide that from April. An initiative has been taken to supply gas from the Bhola island to Khulna via Barishal through pipelines,” he said.

The state-run Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company has said huge natural gas reserves have been found in Bhola. But due to a lack of pipelines, it is not possible to bring that to the mainland. As a result, the gas cannot be used anywhere other than in the power plants in that area.

Nasrul said electricity prices would be adjusted gradually every month.

Talking about load-shedding during the irrigation season, he said the power outage problem is not that intense. “We are handling it in various ways.”

He advised farmers to run irrigation machines according to the schedules set by the government.

The state minister also said some areas are facing power cuts but this problem will be solved if irrigation machines are run according to the government-set schedules.
