The “Best of Bangladesh Expo 2023” kicked off on Saturday to showcase the best of the country’s products and services to the global audience at the Bangladesh Business Summit 2023.

A wide range of products and services from various sectors, including textiles, agro-processed foods, leather, ceramics, jute and handicrafts were showcased by many companies and business organisations on the first day of the summit.

Organisers said that the expo will help promote trade and investment in Bangladesh while the participants hoped that the event will create an opportunity for them to increase the visibility of local products and services to world business leaders.

A good number of business leaders who attended the summit also visited the expo to explore opportunities for local and international companies. It was a vast networking opportunity for both parties.

While inaugurating the summit, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also called upon global businessmen and investors to invest in Bangladesh.

Welcoming the business people attending the three-day summit, she said: “I call upon you all to join our journey towards making Bangladesh a high income generated, developed, prosperous and innovative Smart Bangladesh by 2041.”

The country’s apex business body Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) organised the summit at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Dhaka to commemorate its Golden Jubilee.

After the inauguration programme, several business sessions took place at the venue while many visitors thronged the expo, arranged in tents on the BICC premises.

Bengal Group of Industries is one of the companies and business bodies that are participating in the expo. Talking to The Business Post, Bengal Polymer Wares Limited General Manager Syed Iftekharuddin Ahmad said, “We have come here to showcase our four industries — building materials, apparel, media and plastic industries.”

“We believe our companies are the best in Bangladesh for producing plastic homeware and industrial ware. We are 100 per cent export-oriented in the apparel sector,” he said while attending to visitors at their stall.

“For home building development, we have cement and pipes brands. So, with these four components, we are trying to portray our business here,” he said, adding that they are involved in a total of 26 industries.

At the motorised vehicle corner, Runner Automobiles, ACI Motors Ltd, Nitol Niloy Group, Uttara Motors, TVS Auto Bangladesh and several other companies were showcasing different vehicles, including motorcycles and CNG-run auto-rickshaws.

Sujon Krishna Dey, senior manager of the production and maintenance unit of ACI Motors, said they are prominently displaying several models of Yamaha motorcycles, including FZ-S FI and Saluto 125cc, at the expo and the bestseller is FZ-S FI Version 2.

“We have so far produced a total of 73,520 units in Bangladesh and sold 72,765 units,” he added.

At the expo, PRAN-RFL Group is prominently showcasing consumer products. “We produce over 2,800 products in nine categories. Here, we are showcasing the export-oriented products,” said Zaman Razu, communications officer of the group.

The Leathergoods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB) also showcased different items including footwear, bags, dresses and other goods.

“In the last fiscal year despite different challenges, this industry showed its resilience. Overall, the leather, leather products and footwear sector showed over 30 per cent growth and closer to Tk 2 billion export, which is not a small matter,” said LFMEAB Manager Compliance Md Syfur Rahman.

“We are looking for better exposure in the global market and also foreign investments. This expo will hopefully facilitate that,” he added.

Different companies and business associations are showcasing their products and services at 30 pavilions at the three-day expo.

The participants included BEXIMCO, Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries, Fair Group, BGMEA, BKMEA, BTMA, City Group, Meghna Group of Industries, Abul Khair Group, BSRM, Diamond World Ltd, HSBC, Bangladesh Sugar Refiners Association, BIDA, Protik Ceramics, Akij Group, Unilever, KSRM, Walton, Berger Paints Bangladesh, etc.
