Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Friday said action will be taken against unscrupulous traders if they hike the prices of commodities during Ramadan.
The minister said this at the inauguration programme of “Digital Palli Mela” marking the birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Damudya upazila of Shariatpur.
He said some unscrupulous traders increase the prices of commodities in the country ahead of the month of Ramadan.
“This year, the country has enough food stock in Ramadan. There is no need to hike the prices,” he added.
Tipu said Bangabandhu dreamt that the country would be developed and its people would be educated.
“Now, his [Bangabandhu’s] worthy daughter Sheikh Hasina is fulfilling the dream of having a house for everyone along with education. We are very lucky to have such a leader, who has been working relentlessly for the last 14 years and will continue it in the future as well,” the minister said.
The minister said that there is enough stock of essential goods to meet the demand during the holy month of Ramadan. Therefore, people should not worry and buy more goods, which will disrupt supply lines.
Already, surveillance and monitoring have been strengthened in the market and the minister sought the media’s responsible role to maintain market monitoring.
