Nor’wester likely across country

Mild to strong nor'wester coupled with hailstorms, monsoon rains and thunderstorms may hit a few places across the country from March 18 to 19, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Meteorologist Dr Mohammad Abul Kalam Mallik said, “Mild to strong nor'wester may occur at different places across the country from Saturday to Tuesday due to pre-monsoon disturbance which is normal during March, April and May.”

Rain accompanied by the temporary gusty and squally wind with 45-60 kph speed is likely to occur at a few places across the country depending on the formation of clouds, he said.

Meanwhile, Dhaka on Friday witnessed 1 mm rain while the highest 23 mm rain was recorded in Kushtia, he added.

In the daily forecast, BMD said a trough of westerly low lies over West Bengal and adjoining areas and seasonal low lies over South Bay.

Rain and thundershowers are likely to occur at a few places over Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna & Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Barishal & Chattogram divisions with hails at isolated places over the country.

Rain and thundershowers activity may increase in the next five days, BMD said.

Day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country for 24 hours commencing from 6 pm on Friday.
