Mohammed Akther Parvez, Managing Director of PHP Automobiles Ltd, hosted a welcome dinner for the first time after he was appointed as the honorary consul of Malaysia.

The event was organised at the residence of Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman, Chairman of PHP Family, at Nasirabad in Chattogram city on Friday (March 17) at 8:30 pm.

Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Haznah Md Hashim attended the programme as the chief guest.

Newly appointed honorary consul of Malaysia for Chattogram and Managing Director of PHP Automobiles Akther Parvez said Malaysia is our best friend.

“I hope that the existing relations between the two countries will be strengthened in the future. Our socio-economic ties with Malaysia will be bolstered further as well as trade and commerce will be boosted.”

He added: “At the invitation of my father Sufi Mizanur Rahman, Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad visited Bangladesh. Since then, we have been maintaining a good relationship with Malaysia.”

“I have assumed responsibility for an automobile manufacturing facility built in Bangladesh for the first time,” he also said.

Referring to friendly relationship between Malaysia and Bangladesh, he said Malaysian High Commissioner Haznah Md Hashim came here from Dhaka for a short period of time and visited our factories.

“However, she (Haznah) is giving us time very cordially. This will help strengthen the existing ties between the two countries in the days to come and will boost our socio-economic ties and trade with Malaysia.”

In her speech, Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Haznah Md Hashim said Malaysia was always beside Bangladesh and would stand by the country in the future.

“Mohammed Akther Parvez is a businessman of Bangladesh. He has first built an automobile manufacturing facility in Bangladesh. The Malaysian government is delighted to appoint an honest person like him as the honorary consul.”

“I am hopeful that the relationship between Malaysia and Bangladesh will be strengthened further in the future. He (Akther Parvez) carries out his duty with sincerity. The district where he works is very important for Bangladesh as the country’s economy is dependent on this region.”

“I also hope that he will work properly in carrying out his diplomatic responsibilities,” she added.

She also said, “Proton is working well. I am hopeful that in such way, the trade relationship between Malaysia and Bangladesh will be boosted further. Finally, I invite all to have health checkup in our country as Malaysia offers advanced medical treatment.”

Chairman of PHP Family Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman gave a speech after singing a song at the end of the programme.

He said, “Happiness can neither be bought nor be owned.” “After seeing a rose, epic poet Ghalib said I have been fascinated by a rose,” Rahman quoted, adding that he (Ghalib) had not to go around the whole garden. “It is very import thing that we have come to this Earth as human beings. So, this life should be enjoyed,” he added.

Emphasising the importance of the relationship between the teachers and the students, he also quoted from a letter written by Abraham Lincoln.

In the letter, he said, Abraham Lincoln explained the importance of teacher’s respect to his children in terms of being a decent person with human values.

He said if the relationship between the teachers and the students is not good, then it is not only unfortunate for the students, but also for the teachers. “It should not be commercial in any way. I am not jealous of anybody. I wish everyone well,” he added.
