Online sales alleviate suffering

People who will travel to their hometowns during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr are happy to buy advance train tickets without any hassles as Bangladesh Railway has introduced an integrated digital ticketing system for the first time.

On Friday, Bangladesh Railway began selling advance train tickets for April 17 on its website and app. Tickets for the western region sold out within minutes without complexities.

Those buying tickets said online ticket sales have reduced hassles that they usually face while purchasing tickets during festivals. They also said people earlier even had to spend the night in the platform to buy tickets but now tickets are just a click away.

However, some people said they could not buy tickets as tickets sold out within minutes.

Railway sources said none of the trains for Jashore, Khulna, and the northern districts has available tickets.

As per the previous announcement, all tickets for the Eid journey as well as the return journey are being sold online this year.

Tickets for April 18, 19, 20 and 21 will be sold on April 8 (today), 9, 10 and 11 while return tickets will be sold from April 15.

Shah Alam Shishir, commercial officer of the railway’s Dhaka division, said all tickets for the western region have already sold out while some tickets for the eastern region are still available.

He said some 25,778 tickets will be sold daily. “As tickets are sold online, there is no rush of passengers at the railway station. Sohoz.com, which is in charge of selling railway tickets, is capable of selling 8,000 tickets per minute. One million people can access their site at once.”

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) is going to start a special bus service from April 14, which will run till April 23. It will sell advance tickets from the relevant depots by tomorrow.
