Eid-ul-Fitr holiday extended by a day

The government has extended the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday by a day through an executive order, and April 20 (Thursday) will thus be part of the holiday.

The extra holiday was approved at the weekly cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday.

After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain informed journalists about the development at a press briefing at the secretariat.

Before the executive order, the Eid holiday was supposed to be from April 21 to 23, considering Eid will be celebrated on April 22. There is a holiday on the occasion of Shab-e-Qadr on April 19, and April 20 was supposed to be a working day.

To make it a consecutive holiday, the government declared April 20 a holiday too. So the five-day Eid holiday will begin on April 19.

However, the holiday will be extended by one more day to include April 24 if this year’s Ramadan has 30 days.
