The cashless land development tax service is set to come into effect from today on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh in a bid to digitise and ease the tax submission process.
From now on, landowners will be able to submit the tax online without having to face the hurdles of visiting the tax offices in person, according to sources at the land ministry.
The tax can be submitted through mobile banking, debit and credit cards payment, and through banks.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had announced the introduction of a cashless land development tax system from the first day of the Bengali New Year 1430 at the opening ceremony of the National Land Conference in Dhaka on March 29.
According to officials familiar with the matter, the new service is being introduced to make the tax collection process more people-friendly.
Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said, “Land development tax collection service will be made cashless and fully implemented digitally. All land owners -individuals and organisations- are requested to pay the tax on time and regularly.”
He added that the land ministry has introduced a cashless e-registration system for the purpose.
To pay land development tax, citizens must register on the land.gov.bd web portal. After paying the tax, they can collect the acknowledgement slip online.
