Bangladesh Railway will start selling advance tickets online for intercity trains from June 14 ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha.
The Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan disclosed the information at a press conference at the Rail Bhaban on Tuesday.
“Advance tickets will be released online in two shifts. The western zone will sell tickets online from 8 am and in the eastern zone will start selling at noon,” the minister said.
“Advance sale of tickets for June 24 will be available on June 14 and tickets for June 28 will be available on June 18.”
He also said, “Bangladesh Railway will launch a new train on the Dhaka-Chilahati route on June 4 which will be virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The railway will also operate eight special trains for the holidaymakers during the Eid rush.”
The advance sale of return tickets will start on June 22. The tickets for July 2 will be available on that day. Return tickets can be purchased until June 26 while tickets for July 6 will be sold on the last day.
Bangladesh Railway has decided to sell the advance train tickets 10 days before Eid. Earlier, advance tickets were sold five days before the celebration. However, these tickets cannot be refunded.
After the seat bookings for all trains for the Eid and return journeys are complete, the railway will start selling the 25 per cent standing tickets for non-AC compartments only. These tickets will only be available at the counters of the beginning stations on the date of the journey.
While making the online purchase, a passenger will be able to avail four tickets of any one train towards the destination and one train to return to Dhaka after Eid.
The minister stated, “The Railway has planned to add 65 passenger coaches during its special Eid service and relief trains will be on standby to clear the lines in case of any derailment or accident.”
The authorities will also operate two pairs of special trains from Dhaka cantonment station which will go to Panchagarh and Lalmonirhat. No inter-city train will be on service on the day of Eid-ul-Azha.
Besides, from June 24 to June 29 all goods-laden trains will be off service except those carrying containers and fuel.
