The government has decided to announce ‘Joy Bangla’ as national slogan, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said on Sunday.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he told the media at the secretariat after the meeting.
The Cabinet Division will issue a gazette notification soon in this regard.
The prime minister joined the meeting virtually from Ganabhaban while others concerned were connected from the Bangladesh Secretariat.
“With the notification, this slogan will mandatorily be used,” Anwarul Islam said.
He said the High Court had passed an order that ‘Joy Bangla’ will be the national slogan of the country and the cabinet discussed the matter at the Sunday’s meeting.
Anwarul Islam said constitutional post-holders, government officials and staff will use the slogan after their speeches on state programmes.
Besides, the slogan must be used in assembly, meeting and seminar in all the educational institutions, he added.
Earlier in March 2020, a High Court bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader declared that ‘Joy Bangla’ will be the national slogan and gave three specific directives to the authorities concerned about the use of the slogan.
