Man held with illegal foreign currency at Dhaka airport

The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate officials on Sunday detained a man carrying illegal foreign currency worth around Tk 22,55,000 at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The detainee is Mohammad Habibur Rahman Onit, a resident of Faridpur, said CIID’s Assistant Director Tanvir Ahmed. Tanvir said they acted on a tip off that foreign currency would be smuggled to Istanbul from Dhaka via Turkish Airlines Flight No-TK 713 at around 3:40am.

Upon suspicion, CIID team scanned Habibur’s portable bag and found the foreign currency without any valid document against it, he said. Later, he was handed over to the airport police station as a part of legal action. Earlier, an Istanbul bound passenger was detained on June 5 in airport with illegal foreign currency worth around Tk 54 lakh.
