‘Work together to become middle-income country’

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun urged all people involved in Textile and Ready-Made Garment (RMG) industry to work together for sustainable development of the sectors to achieve the middle-income country status by 2041.

“Sustainable development of the textile and RMG industry is a must to achieve SDGs by 2030 and to upgrade the country’s status by 2041. So, we have to remove all the existing barriers of the industry,” said the minister at a webinar on Monday.

Focusing on more research in this sector, Humayun called upon all engaged in the sector and academicians to increase links among themselves for the sake of the sector’s development.

The principal investigator of Global Challenge Research Fund (GCRF) QR-2021 Project Dr Abu Sadat Muehammad Sayem presided over a virtual meeting titled “Sustainable Fashion Textile Production Framework and its implementation in Bangladesh.”

The meeting was attended, among others, by vice-chancellor of BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology Prof. Dr SM Mahfuzur Rahman and Head of Manchester Fashion Institute Liz Barners.

Bangladesh is working to ensure sustainable development in the garment sector.

There are seven lead platinum certified green factories, among the ten of the globe, are from Bangladesh. Besides, more than 400 garment factories are waiting for the certificate to become green factories here.

Meanwhile, the US embassy recognised the garment sector of Bangladesh as a safe working environment.
