The Department of Environment (DoE) authority fined six factories around Tk 2.1 crore for polluting the environment and breaking environmental laws on Tuesday.
Mohammad Masud Hasan Patwari, the DoE Director (Monitoring and Enforcement Wing) penalised the six factories after a hearing at the department's metropolitan office in Dhaka.
The factories were set up and being run without taking environmental clearance, creating noise pollution by running captive power plants and polluting the air, Assistant Director to Monitoring and Enforcement Wing of the Department of Environment, Md. Mirza Asadul Kibria confirmed the matter to The Business Post on Tuesday evening.
Rafiq Textile Dyeing and Printing Works was fined Tk 1,90,27,200, Mrs Maya Textile and Printing Industries Tk 17,63,200, Palak Chemical Industries Tk 1,43,770, Mrs Mozammel rubber-02 Tk 20,000, Mrs Yasin Furniture Tk 13,890 and Moni Furniture Tk 13,890.
The factories were fined under section 7 of the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act-1995.
