Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh Army General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed called on Turkey’s Defence Industries Minister Ismail Demer and Deputy Minister of National Defence Muhsin Dere.
During the meetings in Turkey on Thursday, the Army chief said that there have been long-standing strategic friendships, and cultural ties between the armed forces of Turkey and Bangladesh.
He also hoped that the relations would reach new heights in the future, said an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) media statement on Saturday.
General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed is currently on an eight-day official visit to Turkey on the occasion of the International Defence Fair-2021.
He said this visit would open new opportunities for cooperation between the military forces, particularly the armies of the two countries.
He thanked both Ismail Demer and Muhsin Dere for inviting him and his delegation to the fair, added the release.
Turkey’s Deputy Minister of National Defence Muhsin Dere during the meeting assured the Bangladesh delegation of his country’s commitment to support Bangladesh with military equipment, training and exchange of technology.
Defence Industries Minister Ismail Demer said he would look into all the ongoing issues with Bangladesh on behalf of his country and provide necessary support so that the defence cooperation between the two countries turn beneficial in the future.
On Friday, the army chief visited different stalls at the fair. He is scheduled to meet Turkey’s army chief and the chief of general staff after the conclusion of the fair. The army chief is set to return home on August 26.
