E-CAB suspends four members

The e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) has suspended the membership of four e-commerce organisations, including e-Orange.com, on various charges. The three other companies are -- TwentyfourTicketing.com, Green Bangla E-Commerce Ltd, and Excellent World Agro-Food and Cosmetics Ltd.

E-CAB General Manager Jahangir Alam Shovon said suspension letters had been sent to the companies on Sunday.

Confirming the matter to The Business Post, he said the decision to suspend their membership was taken after investigating allegations against these e-commerce platforms.

“Each organisation was given time to show cause and provide information. The membership of the firms, who failed to give a logical answer within stipulated time, has been suspended,” he added.

In the notice, it’s been said, the membership of e-Orange has been suspended due to fraud, failure to deliver the product on time, and not providing proper information of ownership change. The reason for suspending the membership of TwentyfourTicketing.com is embezzlement. E-CAB has found evidence of involvement in multi-level marketing or MLM business against Green Bangla E-Commerce Limited and Excellent World Agro-Food and Cosmetics Limited.

According to sources, the decision was taken after analysing the allegations brought against various organisations at the executive council meeting of e-CAB on July 18. After a careful review, letters were sent to the companies on August 22 asking them to come up with satisfactory answer to allegations framed against them within 15 days.

“Initially, the cases of 16 organisations came upon the basis of various allegations. e-CAB conducted preliminary investigations into 13 companies, excluding three others — Priyoshop, Roka International, and Shopfront — due to the settlement of general complaints and mitigation of grievances. Initially, the membership of four organisations has been suspended. Nine other companies have denied allegations against them and made promises in black and white to abide by the digital commerce policy. So the institutions have been kept under observation for the time being and further investigation into some of them is underway,” Shovon added.
